セミナー情報 : JTPAの３周年パーティー開催報告

JTPAでは６月１４日、設立３周年パーティを開催しました。

当日は様々な業種・業界から７０人ほどがパロアルトのシェラトンホテルに集まり、
ネットワーキング、談話そして余興のビンゴゲーム、大縄跳びを楽しまれました。普
段からご参加頂いている方に加え、今回が初めてという方も大勢来られ、シリコンバ
レーの日本人社会の裾野の広さを改めて実感することができました。

ビンゴゲームでは数々の豪華賞品をめぐり、予想通り熱い戦いが展開されました。賞
品をご提供頂きました各企業の皆様に、この場を借りてお礼申し上げます。

大縄跳びについては「本当に（ホテルの室内で）やるとは思わなかった」との声も出
ましたが、最終的にはかなりの方々に跳んでいただけました。

盛況のうちに終了致しました今回のパーティですが、こうして大勢の方にご来臨頂け
るの、ここまで３年間活動してこれたのも、普段からの皆様のご支援のおかげと深く
感謝しております。

今後とも一層のご参加・ご支援を賜りますようよろしくお願い申し上げます。

来る６月１４日（火）夕方６時半より、JTPAの３周年パーティーをパロアルトのシェラトンホテルで開催します。

技術を志向する日本人プロフェッショナルのシリコンバレーでの活躍を支援するNPOとして２００２年に設立されたJTPAですが、早いものでこの７月で設立３周年を迎えます。

設立以来、様々な形で活動を拡大・充実してまいりましたが、これも皆様のご支援のおかげと深く感謝しております。そこで、このたび設立３周年を祝うと共に皆様と楽しい一時を過ごしたく、パーティを開催したく思います。新趣向としては、豪華景品つきのビンゴゲームなども企画しております。

Job Description:

CMI is seeking an adaptable, highly motivated individual to join our team as a Project Coordinator (PC) based out of our San Francisco office. The PC should have both exceptional creative sensibilities as well as strong organizational skills, and must be extremely detail oriented while still being able to see the big picture.

The PC will be responsible for liaising between CMI’s master rights licensors and our end-client licensees on a variety of projects. The PC will coordinate the creative approval process while handling both external and internal communication on a day-to-day basis in both English and Japanese.

The PC will also play an integral role on both the creative and business fronts by providing support on select internal development projects. This will entail critical analysis of creative concepts, conducting targeted market research, and keeping abreast of industry news, trends and events.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Fluency in both written and spoken English and Japanese
- Creative background
- Understanding of film and television markets in both the US and Japan

Skills:

- Excellent communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong computer skills: Word, PowerPoint/Keynote, Excel, and Apple AV applications
- Ability to perform under pressure, multi-task, and work with rapidly changing circumstances

セミナー情報 : セミナー：　CJKV 日中韓越情報処理

あの「フグ本」の著者、Ken Lunde（ケン・ランディ）氏によるシリコンバレー講演を法政大学と共催し、法政大学東京キャンパスで同時生中継しました。日本会場から約７０名、シリコンバレー会場には約３５名の合計１００名以上の参加者が集まり大成功でした。

今回の日米同時セミナーは、法政大学からの協力により実現することができました。大変お世話になりました法政大学の清原孟教授（アメリカ研究所所長・経済学部）、林公美所長（アメリカ研究所所長）、八名和夫教授（前アメリカ研究所所長・工学部）に深く御礼申し上げます。

また、過去のJTPAツアー参加者の山下さん、近藤さん、南部さんに日本会場でボランティアとして準備を手伝っていただきました。ご協力いただきありがとうございました。

今回のJTPA セミナーには、ソフトウェアの日本語化に携わる技術者に必須のバイブル「日本語情報処理」の著者でありアドビ社でSr. Computer ScientistのKen Lunde氏をお招きします。（スピーカーのバイオは末尾をご参照下さい）

その表紙の絵から「フグ本」と呼ばれる「日本語情報処理」の１９９３年の出版は、コンピュータの世界ではまだまだ英語しか考慮されていなかったといっても過言ではなかった当時、日本語情報処理の歴史上画期的な事件でした。その続編「CJKV日中韓越情報処理」では、日本語に加え中国語、韓国語、ベトナム語をコンピュータで処理する方法についてが包括的に解説され、マルチバイト言語処理の教科書として世界中の技術者に広く利用されています。（注１）

講演では、マルチバイト言語処理のイロハに加え、中国政府によりサポートが義務付けられ、最近話題になっているGB18030-2000（注２）のトピックをカバーします。
既に重要な市場である日本に加え、巨大市場への成長が期待される中国、韓国、ベトナムにおいて言語処理はアプリケーションビジネス参入障壁の一つとなっています。そのための貴重なノウハウが学べるこの機会をお見逃しなく！

Ken Lunde, Ph.D.

Dr. Ken Lunde was born in 1965 in Madison, Wisconsin, grew up in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, and entered the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985 as a freshman. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in linguistics in 1987. He received his Master of Arts degree in linguistics in 1988. He finally received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in linguistics in 1994, and his dissertation was entitled "Prescriptive Kanji Simplification." He joined Adobe Systems Incorporated in 1991, and is currently Senior Computer Scientist, CJKV Type Development.

This definitive guide tackles difficult issues faced when dealing with complex Asian languages -- Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese -- in the context of computing or Internet services. It contains revised information from Ken Lunde's first book, Understanding Japanese Information Processing, as well as coverage of three additional languages and how they impact Internet resources such as the Web, HTML, XML, Java, and Adobe Acrobat.
Adobe Acrobat product CD, starting from Version 5, has included Chapter 1 of this book in PDF from the English editions. The Japanese and Chinese ones were included in Acrobat 6.0 and later.

Ken Lunde, Sr. Computer Scientist at Adobe Systems, Inc. and author of "CJKV Information Processing", will outline the basics of large character sets and encodings, which is a must for developers of international/multilingual applications.

He will also cover issues related to GB 18030-2000, which is a government-mandated character set standard from Mainland China that has far-reaching implications. GB 18030-2000 is thus an important topic for software developers worldwide, given the potential of the Mainland Chinese market.
